Works on Paper
These recent works on paper explore the artist’s interest in the intersection of the fine and applied arts. The Botanical Rhapsody and Mandala series include large scale cyanotypes on mulberry paper with repeating, mirrored floral images based on en plein air drawings of wildflowers growing along an ancient footpath on Kea Island, Greece.
The lithographs pay homage to the great Maine forest and urban trees and record loss of the elms, American chestnuts and the ash (the basket tree important to the Wabanaki). The stark black and white and faded cyanotype images of trees are portraits of individual trees important to the artist.
The “Ανο Κάτω and Binary is Best” series of large scale, repeat pattern drawings and prints on paper are based on Greek textile and embroidery patters of the Ottoman period from the Benaki Museum collection, Athens, Greece. translated into 01 binary patterns drawn and printed on mulberry paper.
